Get free stuff by writing to companies!!

This may sound so simple, but perhaps was something you didn't even realize!

Have you ever called one of those customer service numbers you find on products? Emailed a company to compliment or complain about a product of theirs? Well I highly suggest doing this!

Often times, the company will send you valuable coupons, or even coupons for free items! In the past, I've received many high value coupons or free items by writing to a manufacturer (usually to compliment).
Some that I've received include: Glade, True North snacks, Iams, Pepsi, Oregon Chai, Bayer, Digiornio and more!

One time, my boyfriend bought a 6 pack of beer. Upon opening the first one, he noticed a little skunky taste. Well about 2 beers into the 6 pack, he decided to call the customer service line (and let me assure you, the conversation got funnier as the 6 pack went down!). They wanted to know all kinds of details about where he purchased the beer and numbers from the bottle. In the end, they sent him a coupon for a FREE 6 pack AND a prepaid box to send back a sample of the "skunky" beer!

I suggest praising or complaining about a product only if you have a legitimate things to say. They'll know if you are just sending generic emails, trying to score free products. Include something specific, about how it reminds you of your childhood or makes your life easier in some way - companies love this!

The blog, Couponing to Disney, has a "5 a day" campaign, where she suggests 5 different companies each day to email. She also has a great comprehensive list of companies she has already contacted, and what she's already received from them. You can find that here.

The freebie will most likely been in the form of a printable coupon that you take to the store. In the past, I have found the most inexpensive "Pink" item to be bars of soap for $5. Others have reported finding "Pink" lollipops for much less however.

They also have been known to have printable coupons for a "Free panty." I've been able to score several, and will be sure to keep you posted if they add more!

There are a lot of so-called reward programs out there. While there is a lot of garbage out there on the internet, there are many programs that really do pay out!

I have tried many, and I'm going to feature some periodically on this blog, that have paid out already, or ones I'm very close to redeeming on.

I signed up on a whim, and at the time, I didn't even own a credit card. They send a few emails a day, and you earn points by clicking through to their advertisers or taking surveys. Using that method, it took me almost a year to earn enough for a $25 card.
Now that I'm "all grown up," and have taken advantage of some of the "free trials" they offer, such as Netflix, Gamefly and Gevalia (you do have to enter a credit card and some programs you have to call and cancel or they will charge you), I've been able to redeem my points for rewards multiple times per year.

The best part is you are getting rewarded for doing something you'd do anyway- reading your emails! And taking advantage of trials offers you may have been considering anyway! You can also earn points per dollar spent at MANY online retailers, when you click through from My Points.

I am not "affiliated" with My Points in anyway other than just being a member. If you click through the link above to sign up, I don't get any kind of referral bonus or anything. I just wanted to share this with my readers, as this program has turned out to be quite the little gem! As with all programs like this, I recommend using an email address separate from your personal email, so the messages don't get mixed up in with your regular emails.

How I got all this stuff for $2.52 out of pocket!

Drug stores have a lot of great deals if you're willing to look and plan!

By pairing sale prices with manufacturer's coupons, store coupons (you can use one of each per item!) and rebates, you can score items for very little money and often times FREE!

My most recent trip to Rite Aid is a wonderful example of this! I only had to spend $2.52 (including tax!) out of my pocket for 16 items that would have cost $62.65 (before taxes) regularly!

Here is a summary of the items I purchased and the coupons I used to get such a great deal:

Rite Aid also has a promotion going on right now called The Game of Life. Earn game tickets for purchasing specially marked products and have a chance at instantly winning prizes or collect the tickets and win. I didn't win anything but each game ticket has a different Rite Aid coupon attached so hopefully I'll be able to use them in a future transaction!

Voice your opinion AND try new products FREE!

These are some of great sites to sign up with for the possibility of scoring some really awesome freebies, while getting to try new products and giving your feedback on them. I consider these few "tried and true" because I have participated in the sites for a few months now, received a few things from them and happily returned to their websites to provide my feedback.

Bzzagent – This site is to a “word of mouth” marketing program, where people discuss products, websites, brands, etc. Sign up and complete a few short surveys so they know what group you fall into. Then contribute to a few products' pages (comments, links, photos, etc.) and you can be invited to participate in BzzCampaigns. For BzzCampaigns, they usually send out a product for you to test and review on their site.

So far, I’ve been invited to one campaign. I got to try the new L’oreal lash boosting serum and Double extend mascara with Lash boosting serum, for FREE!

Vocalpoint – Website for moms and consumers in general, with message boards, tips, recipes, etc. They also send out free things from time to time as part of their “Try and Tells.” They send you a product, coupons for free products, high value coupons, or other little goodies. Then you come back to the site and talk about the products.

So far, from them I’ve received Olay Pro-X face cream and Secret clinical strength deodorant, and they also did the new Bounce Dryer bars just before I signed up.


SheSpeaks – Website for female consumers to “speak their minds” about products (very similar to Vocalpoint). Sign up and when they have a “study” for you to join, they will email you to let you know.

So far from them, I’ve received Ghirardelli chocolate with peanut butter squares. How cool is that?? Afterward, they asked me to come back to their website and take a short survey about the chocolate. Very simple and totally worth it.

House Party - This is a community where people are connected through parties, all thrown at the same time, centered around a certain product or event. Sign up and apply to be a party host, and if you are selected they usually send a "party pack" with all the goodies you'll need to throw an awesome party!

So far, I've hosted one party. It was called "Fun, fit and Guilt free House party" and it was to promote Your Shape with Jenny McCarthy and Jell-o Mousse whips. I received coupons for free Jell-o Mousse whips to serve at my party, two Nintendo Wii games to try and KEEP, and coupons and headbands for the guests. Pretty cool huh?

Well here it is, the first post on this blog.

Tips for playing and winning online Instant wins

Earlier I shared with you about how I win stuff all the time in online instant win contests.
You can find a list of my favorite current instant wins here.

Here are some tips I come up with:

• The first time you play, you will have to enter your information, but after that you are usually able to play by just entering your email address (so it's a lot faster!)
• If the contest requires you to create a password for entry, choose one that rolls off your fingers because you will have to type it each time you enter. I use the same one for all the contests, but it's different than my personal passwords for security purposes.
  
• Choose just a few contests that sound interesting to you to start out with.
• Enter as often as they let you to maximize your chances of winning! Take an hour (or less depending on how many you're participating in) to enter each day.
• If the contest allows multiple daily entries, don't use them all at the same time. In most contests, winning plays are at predetermined times. So if you don't win at 5:54 pm the first time, generally you won't win at 5:54 pm the second try either.
  
• Choose contests that have a lot of prizes to giveaway (rather than just 1 a day), and smaller "winnable" prizes, so you have a better chance of winning. This will build your confidence in these promotions, and encourage you to enter more often after you get your first win!
• When you're entering, keep your email address "copied" so you can quickly and easily paste it into the box when you need to, rather than typing it out each time.
• Often times there will be an option to "skip game." This will save time and you CAN still win this way! I've won at least twice while skipping the games.
  
• Be sure to give your real information, because this is how they would contact you if you won a bigger prize!
• Don't try to gain extra entries by using different email addresses!
• Skip the contests that don't have prizes that are relevant to you (for example, I skip the one whose prize is "100 box tops for education" - I don't participate in that program, the prize would be worthless to me) - It makes it a lot faster and gets you on track to win prizes you really do want!
• If you find yourself awake at off peak times, enter! There will most likely be less people entering really early in the morning or really late at night. Usually if no one plays at the "winning time," whoever plays next will win the prize.
  
• Don't get discouraged if you aren't winning! December was my best month so far, and now in January, all I've won is salsa. But if you stop playing, you will definitely not win anything!
